S219: Very Nice Antique Bone German Selenus Chess Set with very nice chess box.

One side natural the other dark brown stain that has a very nice patina, knights heads are well carved with colored lips. Finely turned throughout the kings finiales of particular note.
The octagonal box with painted Selenus pieces and crown on top is striking. It has the phase "Schach dem Konig" (Checkmate the King).
Probably central European, dating to the mid 19th century. Measurements: King 10.5cms tall.
