S210:Antique Club size (4.4") weighted Jaques chess set with original box and label, circa 1915.

Both kings stamped 'Jaques London' the rim of their bases, kings 11cms
Nice patina. One side boxwood the other ebony.

Interestingly on the underside of the box the ane H Stonier Washington D.C. is inked in.

From what I have found this was probably the original owner of the chess set Horatio Stonier Jr. (1878-1929).
He was a strong amateur player in the DC area during the early 20th century.

I have included a simul game he played against Lasker and a newspaper article from the period at the end of this page.

It is rare to have much history with any antique set, I guess this one has seen some good games.
