Reference: S89 : Large Russian Bread Prisoner vs Guard Chess Set

This form of set was made in Russian by prisoners to earn some income, the set depicts the prisoners vs the guards. kings 14cms tall

The detail is very good (like tattoos on the prisoner figures) on the set, each piece is slightly different and there is a nice sense of humor/caricature to the set in general. The bases are wood with bread based sculpted and painted figures ontop. Probably dates to the later part of the 20th century.
